Oklahoma City

We all took Jeff and Paula's jeep and went into town.  Our first stop of the day was the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum.   It is a well done museum and a touching Memorial to the 168 lives lost in the horrific bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in 1995.

After we left the memorial we made our way to the iconic remains of the Milk Bottle Grocery.  It's not really a "Must See" but kind of interesting. 

Right near by was an unexpected sight, The Gold Dome.  It is a historic geodisic dome built in 1958 as the Citizens State Bank. It has been used in several different capacities over the years and the city is currently planning to turn it into an event center.

We decided to get some lunch and TripAdvisor recommended Cheever's Cafe.  We found the restaurant but the menu was not anything we wanted, the prices were very high AND they were doing construction in the parking which was very loud.  Since we had only received water and had not ordered we decided to leave. 

We found a fantastic diner called Sherri's Diner that I absolutely loved. It is obvious from the first entrance in the driveway that it is a woman owned business.  The building is pink, the parking stripes, curb stops, and even the handicapped parking symbol are a pink.  When we stepped inside it was a classic Route 66 style diner and so charming.   The food was great with huge portions and reasonable prices.  My chicken fried steak was as big as my whole plate.  The service was  very good and the staff very friendly and welcoming. Bill declared it the first 5-Star restaurant we've been to on this trip.

After lunch we returned to the campground and got back early enough that I was able to do a couple loads of laundry.
