We packed up and pulled out of the America's Best Campground and headed back north to continue our Route 66 tour.
We got back into Springfield, MO and made a stop at the national corporate headquarters for Bass Pro Shop. It is huge with amazing displays and every kind of hunting, fishing, boating, and camping gear your could ever need. We called Brett and he put in a request for some specific fishing lures he has been trying to find. They had them in stock so we picked up a few for him.
The Wonders of Wildlife Museum and Aquarium adjacent to Bass Pro Shop is one of the top rated aquariums in the country BUT they had very limited discount options and none of us wanted to pay $50 per person to visit so we passed on the aquarium.
After Bass Pro we continued on our way to the Phillipsburg/Lebanon area. We stopped at the Redmon's Candy Factory which is really just a giant candy store. No factory, no production JUST a candy store so definitely NOT a "Must See" attraction. We gave it a 2-Stars (generous) rating.
In the same parking lot is the "World's Largest Gift Store." Once again nothing really new or different other than the sheer size of the place. If you live to shop then it might be right up your alley but if shopping for excessive amounts of souvenirs is not your thing, then this is another 2-Star attraction.
After our uninspiring visit to the Candy Factory and Gift Store it was on to St Roberts and the Uranus Fudge Factory. This is a fun place with a lot of tongue in cheek humor associated with the name Uranus. They have t- shirts, signs, posters, hats, magnets, etc. all with sayings around the word Uranus or "Your Anus" and of course they carry a large assortment of homemade fudge and chocolates.
At the Uranus Fudge Factory there is also a Sideshow Museum & Funk Yard with quirky oddities and items such as the "World's Largest Belt Buckle." Overall, it is a pretty fun stop for a short visit.
By this point in the day it was starting to get late so Paula and I started calling around to find a campground for the night. We were having no luck so I called ahead to the Missouri Hick BBQ in Cuba, MO, and ask if we could stay there for the night. They said they have a huge parking lot and it was absolutely no problem so we headed there for a delicious BBQ dinner.
Bill and I have actually been there before when we went to Branson with Steve and Janice Mitchell in October of 2020.
We dry camped in their lot and in spite of heavy rain over night we were warm and dry and slept well.
